Our Power, Our Planet!

22 April 2025 marked the 55th anniversary of EARTH DAY,  this year inviting supporters to unite behind renewable energy with the goal of tripling the global generation of clean electricity by 2030. Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day.Org encouraged everyone to talk to our friends, neighbours, community leaders and local and national legislators to explore and champion renewables – saying “grassroots power” has always driven positive change.

BWCE members and supporters have always been in the business of doing energy differently, with social and environmental change at our heart. If you want to help us spread the word then below is an explanation of what we do in a nutshell.

  • We take community investment, develop local renewable generation projects and generate returns that recycle back into the local economy.
  • BWCE’s community business model focuses on maximising local environmental and social benefit.
  • One form of social benefit is via the BWCE Community Fund. £430,000 of surplus income has been reinvested into the Fund since 2015 which has benefitted 111 local community groups focused on reducing carbon emissions and/or addressing fuel poverty.
NB: Carbon reduction doesn’t just mean energy projects, it includes local food, sustainable transport and waste reduction projects too.

Watch this video to hear from three of the community groups who have benefitted from this approach.
